I was not aware that kids did not have to take the test if the parents do no want them to. I guess that could be one way avoid bad news. Is the Tera Nova testing like the WASL? No one has really explained what it is to me.
I also went to Turino for the Olympics, but I was not one of the girls that Andrew had to protect. I went through an organized trip and had a blast! I barely got sleep and any sleep I did get was on a bus. By the way, the bus trip from Napoli to Turino was 10 hours! The entire feel of the town was just energy and everyone was friendly. Any American I met wanted to hear my story on how I ended up in Turino. After that they wanted the life story. Just to see the spirit of the other teams was fantastic! There were people decked out from head to toe in every nation's colors. My favorite was the bright orange group, which was the Netherlands (I think). Oh, my "blast from the past" was the snow... I thought I had seent he last of that stuff!
As far as teaching, my classes are doing pretty well and I am learning a lot, but there are still times that I am completely lost. Sometimes it is a fight to establish yourself in a classroom. I had my first experience with being tested. A student asked my mentor teacher if the y could do something during class and she said "no." Then the kid asked me, and I said "yes." I didn't know about him asking the other teacher.
I am concerned that the students go to the mentor teacher before me. Sometimes I feel like they see me as a joke. Any Suggestions?

Adrianne,
I know what you mean about starting from scratch, but while it is hard work it will also make your lessons more creative. For my Psychology class I don't use the book because there were not enough for the students. I went to write my first test and used the aides to see if I could use some questions. I realized I took a different approach then the book. While I am a little concerned, I am also proud to call the lessons and the work my own! I am sure you are doing a great job and all your hard work will pay off!
Andrew,
Thanks for the info. I did not think I was coming off as a "tough teacher." Until that I thought I was a being a push-over. Hopefully this is a good thing?!
