Your comments continue to be articulate and thoughtful. I don't want you to get bogged down about student apathy but it sure is apparent that you have seen it at all grade levels. Please read my posting to last week's article. I think I was the 13th post.
This week let's talk about the Terra Nova testing and how it affected your teaching. Erika, you can apply this to readying for the IB. This is very much like the WASL so you will have a sense of the pressure teachers and students are under in WA as well.

It was intresting proctoring the testing and watching the different abilities of the students I have in class.
I mainly teach seniors, which means that my classes did not really feel the full impact. However, when the seniors left for bowling I had to quickly rearrange my schedule. It pused everything back, but it all worked out.
I thought it was wierd that we were not supposed to give homework during the testing week. Since I had seniors, I still was able to assign work, but it really made me realize that schools really can "teach to a test." They were willing to bend over backwards to make the test work. It must be a lot of pressure for the students. I can only imagine what it will be like in 2008 when the WASL becomes a graduation requirement.
Give me link to SEO software (promotion, advertisement, etc.). I'm need it to promote my new e-shop.
Thanks.
