Week in Review Jan. 26-30 Due Feb. 3
This will be the first Week in Review posting thru the blog. Each Friday we will create a new post for that week. Entries should be posted no later than the following Tuesday for the previous week.
Remember, it doesn't have to be long and involved just a snap shot and what you are learning.

It is hard to believe that four weeks have gone by already. I continue to have some good days and some bad days. My students are pretty good, but I still struggle with classroom management a little bit. On Friday I felt like there was still too much chattering to neighbors while I was going through some problems, so I am going to try a new seating arrangement in that class next week. My AP-Biology students are great in the behavior department, but seem to not be keeping up with the work and reading. It is a very strenuous college level class. I am going to try to add a little more structure (than they are used to) and start requiring them to do HW every night.
I agree that it is hard to believe 4 weeks have gone by already. It seems like I just got here. I am really enjoying my class. My teacher is doing a great job of allowing me to take on as much as much as I feel comfortable with at the time. I have taught each subject at least once already. I got to do 2 of my lesson from my unit as well. The students are very respectful and give as much respect as they do the regular teacher. So far everything is going well.
We are entering our second week in the classroom, and already things are starting to get busy for me. Finally our living and transportation situations are pretty well established. I have begun to realize that my teaching style may be quite a bit different from my cooperating teacher's philosophy. He uses the Health book as his major resource (I guess I am trying to say that he teaches "out of the book"). I think one of my major challenges this semester will be trying to gel our teaching techniques. He is having an operation in 2 days and will be out about a week and a half, so I will be taking over completely! This made more sense to me than for a substitute to stumble over the lessons. I am actually really excited to have the class to myself, however I am in a mad crunch to get my lesson plans ready for approval tomorrow. Other than that, I have been pleasantly surprised by how warm and welcoming the staff are and how well behaved the students are. I think it will be a great semester.
Hello everyone,
Well the first few weeks of my student teaching experience has been filled with excitement and learning. We arrived at Lakenheath American Middle School on Faltwell air force base in England about two weeks from tomorrow. The trip was great with no major hiccups. Upon meeting my two cooperating teacher Dr. Herold Mills and Mr. David Aaron I have fond that they are both real quality educators with both having more than 35 years of teaching experience. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from this caliber of professional. As far as the school itself goes it is amazing. The building is about 5 years old and brimming with technology which is great. The students are also amazingly good. Although like any school there are those kids who will undoubtedly be challenging, for the most part the classes are filled with students who are in a highly advantageous position as far as coming from good families and being in a very good school. I look forward to sharing more experiences with you all as the time goes on here. I hope that all is well with all of you in your placements and you Chris and Heiti in Pullman. I miss you all and I hope to get together when we are all done and share our great experiences. Best of luck

Sorry that this is a little late. The past month has been quite an adventure! I love my SpEd classroom. My students are always energetic and thrilled to be coming in to work with Mr. Daniels and I. They are like sponges and soak in every new word or piece of information we give them. I work with anywhere from 7 to 10 1st and 2nd grade students with learning disabilities throughout the morning. Since the first day I have been working directly with the students leading lessons and activities. This week I began writing the lesson plans that Mr. Daniels and I will use with the students throughout the week. It has been great learning how to plan the lessons as well as how DoDEA’s Special Education system works. In the afternoons I have been transitioning into Mrs. Heit’s 3rd grade classroom. The first day I began working with one group of students while they are in their learning centers. Mrs. Heit’s classroom is very organized and is structured around the idea that the students should be responsible for their learning. Every minute of the day is planned out so that the students know where they should be and what they should be doing. It was quite overwhelming at first. This will be my second week of writing the daily lesson plans. I plan out every day and then give on copy to Mrs. Heit so that she can follow it in the morning and then in the afternoon I start where she left off. It has been quite an experience! I was a little flustered and overwhelmed when she first asked me to write the lesson plans since I felt that I may not be quite ready to do that. But everything went great the first week and I received lots of encouragement from Mrs. Heit. I have this week all planned out and I look forward to how it, and the next three months, will turn out!
I am delighted to read your comments and hope we are able to have reflections each week that I hope you won't have to spend a lot of time on. Katie, you mentioned in an email that you are having trouble accessing the blog becasue you can't do it from school, if this is an issue for you and/or others, we could try each of us emailing to the others instead. Let me know. Heidi will keep adding a new weekly post site for your reflections.
The semester is flying by and I am glad to hear that everyone is involved in their classroom settings. Lauren, managememt is always challenging and trying differnt seating is certainly a place to start! Alex, I'm glad you are getting a chance to teach and using two lessons from your integrated unit is awesome. Hal, one of the biggest challenges is getting a "teach from the book" person to give you a chance to be a bit more creative. Maybe doing the planning andteaching while he is out is a good beginning. Let us know how soloing works out! Colin, sometimes answering to two teachers is challenging but it sounds like you have two vetrans who have tons of experience to share. Next week tell us about what subjects you are beginning to get involved in. Katie, Im delighted to hear you love the special ed placement. It sounds like your planning is working well for both you and your teacher. The third grade sounds interesting and we'll be anxious to hear more about a classroom where students are responsible for their learning. Sounds like you are gaining confidence planning the daily lessons.
Everybody have a great three day weekend. Include what you did in next week's reflection. Have fun and be safe.
Chris
