Climate Before a Vacation
This is a quick check before you head for Greece. How do you plan for the week prior to spring break? Students tend to get excited days before a holiday and hopefully you are able to keep learning happening. How are you keeping them focused? Give me a quick overview. I look forward to hearing about Greece and what is planned when you return.

Carol and I had planned our usual routines for our short 4-day week. We had a short assembly type thing for Month of the Military Child (something like that...)on Monday, and today we had picture taking. We are also going to watch "High School Musical" this afternoon. With all these extra things going on, we are not getting through everything we had planned. It is always nice to be over-prepared than under-prepared, right? So far, it doesn't seem like our kids realize that break is next week. The energy in our class hasn't been any higher than it usually is, and they don't seem distracted.
I might need to update this tomorrow though, as it will be the day right before break begins...
The week prior to spring break we have tried to keep as normal as possible. The kids gets used to a routine and any changes through them off. However, it just so happened to be a review week so things were a little different but we tried o keep as much the same as possible. Unfortunately there have been some other things that have caused or schedule to change: assemblies, visits with the counselor, and a reading counts celebration on Thursday. The kids use a program called reading counts (similar to AR) and earn points for the tests they take on the books. They get different rewards several time throughout the year for how many points they have. Thursday just so happens to be the next celebration so at the end of the day some students will be going to a popcorn and movie party. We've decided since a good portion of our students will be gone that afternoon that we will play a Magic School Bus video that relates to what we are doing in science right now (animals). That way the students that are gone aren't missing necessary information, but the students that are there are getting a little extra!
We are having a similar problem as Kryssa and Carol in the 'not getting everything done we planned' category. The kids have put together awesome scripts to report on their assigned region of the United States, but in order to film we need the assistance of someone more technologically gifted than ourselves. We have gotten the system set up to film the kids tomorrow, but many are taking off for spring break early, making this project continue into post-spring break. But life goes on! The kids have been energetic, so we joined them for PE to run a mile this morning, that certainly wore them out (us too)! Overall it's been a pretty normal week, just very fast moving as it's only four days with kids.
All of the kids are very excited about their vacations and all going awesome places! We are thrilled to be heading to Greece soon, and will hopefully have lots of stories to hear from all the places our kids travel!
