Communicating with the blog!
Hello everyone,
Unfortunately, time has gotten away from all of us, so the postings have been limited up to now. I personally think it's time to shake things up a bit. :-)
I'm going to send each of you an email that says "check the blog" to make sure you all do that on a regular basis, for those of you that aren't checking just because. If you are having trouble with your password, username, or whatever the case may be...just comment as anonymous. As long as you sign your name, we'll be able to figure out who you are.
So...my prompt for you this week (that I expect you to comment on before the 18th) is this: You are now over 1/2 way through your experience. How are things going?
Are you getting along with your cooperating teachers?
You are probably in full swing solo teaching...elementary folks, what lesson units are you working on....secondary folks, how many class periods are you teaching and what subjects and units are you currently covering?
Please tell us about your classroom and students (using the classroom and student characteristics form from the PPA as a guide).
A comment that was made last semester from student teachers talked about students missing classtime because their families would go on leave.....or a sports team would be traveling....are you seeing that in your classroom/school....how do you approach that?
Ok...that should get you thinking and posting....I expect to have comments from you by Wednesday the 18th.
:-) Work hard, and remember where you came from! :-)
Heidi

Things have been going so well for me this semester. I am currently in a 4th grade classroom, and next week I move to a resource room for the remainder of the semester. Though I have met the teacher that I will be working with, and she is just great, I love my current supervisor and do not want to leave.
I have been solo teaching more or less since the first Friday of the school year...and I love it. I was pretty worried about things at the start, but now know I can do this. My biggest worry was classroom management, but I am dealing with that pretty well.
In my class I have 21 studets: 9 boys and 12 girls. They range from gifted to being on IEPs and 504 plans, but they are all able to do the work that I assign them.
Poetry was the most recent unit that we worked on in Language Arts. During the week and a half that we worked on it, we learned about couplets, limericks, free verse, and haiku style poems; we also wrote name and shape poems. Once we had written a variety of poems we got into small groups, shared our poems, and then decided on the 4 best poems written by each student. After the students selected their best poems they typed them up and each student made a poetry book.
They are all doing really well, and I am learning a lot. Though I am a former DoDDS student, and I know how things go around here, it is still sad to see my students leave.
