The End is in Sight!
A busy two weeks is ahead of you. Share what you did over spring vacation (this is always interesting for those coming after you to read) and what you learned. Also what are your goals for the time that is left--there's lots to pack in! Have fun.

Greece was a lot of fun!We had a hotel in Athens for the week, and did a lot of the major sight-seeing things early on in the week (Parthenon, Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Library, etc.) The three of us also took a ferry to Santorini (it took us over 8 hours)! I absolutely loved Santorini -- it is so picturesque and I liked the slow-moving pace of island life. We "hiked" up a volcano, swam to a warm spring, and rode donkeys up the hundreds of stairs from the old port. We all returned to Athens, and I stayed there for the remaining of the week. I got to do a lot of the popular museums and walk around to see more of the historical sights in the area. Before we headed to Greece, I saw knew we'd be seeing the Parthenon. Did I have any idea what it was? Nope. I learned that the Parthenon was built as a place to worship Athena, whom Athens is named after. The frieze in the structure tells a story. From my understanding of it after visiting the Acropolis Museum, it shows the locals participating in a procession of offerings to Athena. I think the pediments told a story of the birth of Athena (born out of Zeus' head).
I planned a few observations and actually got some done yesterday. I saw Rachael teach, and she saw me teach. I will be dropping by Mary's and Madelyne's next week. I also visited a second grade teacher down the hall today and LOVED it. I snagged a lot of great ideas, and might go back if I can. I also have a observation scheduled to see a fifth grade class and another 1st grade class (which Allison highly recommended) next week.
I am beginning to release the responsibilities back to Carol. Other than getting my observations done, the only other thing I'd like to do before I leave is get letters of recommendation from Allison and Carol. We have started to clean out the apartment by packing up boxes to take to the recycling center. Thomas, our supply person, is going to help us take the boxes to the recycling center. Rachael and I only have one full week left here! Crazy how fast the past few months have flown by...
Spring break was such a blast! Athens was beautiful, with so much to see and do! After our one night stay in Santorini, which we all fell in love with, Rachael and I took a trip later in the week to Mykonos. Mykonos is another island, a short 6 hours from Athens :) Another gorgeous island, where we got to see the beaches and town on a four-wheeler! It was a relaxing, wonderful week with so many beautiful sights, but it was great to get back to 'home'.
I have observed Rachael and Kryssa this week, and will have both of them observe me early next week on a morning where I will be 'in charge'. However, Mary has taken back over the new unit of math, as well as the invention convention project. I will be leaving midway between both of these, so it was good timing for her to resume the teaching role.
We are starting to pack up, figure out how all of our new possessions will make it home, and I am preparing for my week in Rome! I certainly with the girls were coming along, but I'm excited to try out all of the skills we've learned traveling on my own. Although it will be very difficult to leave my class that last week. I have been spending a few days out at recess with my students to enjoy this last bit of time with them!
I agree with Kryssa, it has FLOWN by!
Over spring break, like the others have already said, we went to Greece! It was definitely the trip of a lifetime and I already KNOW that I want to come back later in life to do some more island hopping! Me and Madelyne just got back from a visit to London for the weekend. It was quick, but it was fun! Both of us have already been before so we just did the main things that we wanted to see again so even though I could spend probably an entire month in London, we got in just enough for the weekend.
In my class, we have switched from me teaching completely to team-teaching with Monica. We have been switching off who does the morning warm up and then I still do almost all of reading but Monica has taken back over math in the afternoons. I think that we will continue to do this the rest of the week. I will only come in for a half day next Monday in the afternoon so I can use the morning to get the apartment packed up and cleaned. Then, that afternoon will be my going away party and on my very last day (Tuesday) we are going on a field trip to the Heidelberg zoo! I think that sounds like a perfect last day to me!
Since the base is closing, we are responsible for packing up EVERYTHING in the apartment and taking it to the recycle center. So this week we will be spending a lot of time doing that.
I can't believe our time is so close to the end! I feel so blessed for this opportunity and it has made me even more excited to have my own classroom someday very soon!
