Preparing for the PPA

It's hard to believe that in ten days I will be on my way to see you! This week I'd like you to look over the PPA document and give me an idea of the focus of your formal (all the parts of the PPA) lesson. This is a chance to ask questions of me and each other as you work on your instructional plan. Also, read the Positive Impact on Student Learning (PISL) assignment so we can discuss this activity. The PISL doesn't have to be done while I am there but I will want to talk about it so you are clear about the expectations.

Remember you are continuing with a brief weekly overview in addition to addressing the PPA.

Week in Review

Your comments on the Conceptual Framework were phenomenal. I'm going to share them with faculty--they are that good. Thank you for putting in some time and thought on this.

This week I'd like you to hone back in on your classroom/gym and think about the weekly journal entry you are making. What is starting to emerge from your students as you get to know them better? What are you beginning to learn about yourself and your style that is developing? How would you describe yourself as a teacher thus far? Share a highlight and a low light. Respond to each other.

Teaching and Learning Conceptual Framework

BACKGROUND:
The conceptual framework that guides our teacherp preparation programs states the following: "The College of Education contributes to the theory and practice of the broad field of education, and dedicates itself to understanding and respecting learners in diverse cultural contexts. We facilitate engaged learning and ethical leadership in schools and clinical settings. We seek collaboration with diverse constituencies, recognizing our local and global responsibilities to communities, environments, and future generations." The intersecting circles of the Framework visual refer to "learners in a cultrual context", "Engaged Learning with meaning and purpose" and "Ethical Leadership" toward a sustainable and just future.
QUESTION:
In what ways has your preparation at WSU helped you to enact various aspects of the conceptual framework? How does or do you think your student teaching experiences connect to the framework? What aspects of the framework are becoming most meaningful to you?

Remember to post your comment and respond to at least one other person.

Sept. 8, 2010 Classroom/Student Characteristics

After nearly two weeks with students, you should have completed the Classroom/Student Characteristics form. Kellen, Amanda and Laura you may choose one class section to collect information and reflect upon. What are the demographics of your classroom? What have you learned about your students? How will the information you have gathered help you as you take on more responsibility for planning and teaching?

End your comments with your weekly reflection--include a highlight and a stretch. Please interact with each other by responding to at least one other student's posting with a comment or a question.

Home football game is against Montana State on Saturday. The weather has cooled off with temps. in the 60s and lots of wind. Let's hope the team has learned from their mistakes of last week.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hugs around! Chris
